We did it…

Receiving the Quality Texas Award is the most important award that has been given to any organization I have belonged to in my professional life.

The trophy itself is not important except for three reasons:

· It is a physical, visual validation from outside experts that we are indeed on the correct path to having a world class site management model

· It will be a physical, visual reminder that the criteria demands continual performance improvement and that we will never be finished

· It represents the Big Hill Team (DM, DOE, PGS, ACI), working together as always to be the best; drawing strength from individual talents being joined in a team effort to reach our common goal to be the best

Everyone can be justifiably proud to have achieved this prestigious recognition. One to three organizations get this recognition annually. We are among the elite organizations that know none of us is as smart as all of us.

I am personally convinced that the site visit interviews with everyone on site was the single factor that tipped the scale into the win column.

Lantern Award winners were chosen based on their company’s success, as well as their contributions to the economy of the entire community and the quality of life for all Louisianans. Accordance with the guidelines from Louisiana: Vision 2020, were also criteria for winning. “The purpose of the 2005 Lantern Award is to honor those businesses in the state of Louisiana that have the skill, dedication, and ingenuity to jump to the forefront of our state’s economy and improve Louisiana’s business image,” said Arthur Cooper, LED Director of Business Retention.

The three goals outlined by Louisiana: Vision 2020 are: (1) to become a Learning Enterprise, an entity which values knowledge and treats the pursuit and utilization of that knowledge as its important business; (2) to focus attention on the state’s existing technology-based industries and targets six technology clusters that will frame our efforts for growth and diversification; and (3) to have Louisiana’s standard of living among the top 10 in the U.S. in which to live, work, visit and do business.

	Quality Texas Foundation The Quality Texas Foundation provides a Baldrige-based methodology for organizations to achieve and sustain world-class performance. Patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the Texas Award is an annual recognition of those Texas organizations that excel in performance, quality, and customer satisfaction. The benefits of participation are in the self assessment that occurs during application, and the extensive feedback report prepared for the applicant by a team of trained, certified examiners who review and analyze the application.
